Frequently Asked Questions

Clear answers to common questions.

Jawai sits in the Pali district of Rajasthan, right in the middle of Udaipur and Jodhpur. It wraps around the huge Jawai Bandh dam, and the closest main town nearby is Sumerpur.

• By Train: The nearest major railway station is Jawai Bandh (JWB), located just a few kilometers away. Other nearby options include Falna (FA). • By Air: Udaipur Airport (approx. 150 km) and Jodhpur Airport (approx. 165 km) are the closest airports. • By Road: Jawai is well-connected via state and national highways, taking roughly 2–3 hours by taxi from Udaipur or Jodhpur.

Jawai is world-renowned for its peaceful coexistence between wild leopards and the local Rabari pastoralist community. Unlike wildlife sanctuaries or national parks, there are no boundary fences, safari gates, or government forest permit systems. Leopards roam freely across the granite hills, often living in close proximity to human settlements without conflict.

While wildlife sightings can never be 100% guaranteed, Jawai boasts one of the highest leopard densities and sighting success rates in India.

In addition to wild leopards, you can spot mugger crocodiles near the reservoir, striped hyenas, sloth bears, jungle cats, blue bulls (nilgai), and over 200 species of migratory and resident birds (including flamingos during winter).

I was initially skeptical, but seeing the leopards in their natural habitat just days passed was incredible. The guides are extremely knowledgeable and they arranged everything seamlessly.

We've done safaris across Africa and India — Jawai stands out for its intimacy and sheer leopard density. The hospitality was warm and the sightings were unforgettable. Will return!
